MPO is they did not do enough.. I would like to have seen the entire West side, say out 1000' or so total NMZ (or at least paddle & pole only) and catch and release... most of the fish are either gamefish like Tarpon, Bones, Permit, to small to keep assorted Snappers, Cuda or Sharks.
Its amazing to see how many yehoo's in boats run in and out, hit bottom and just tear it up with no respect for the environment.
Lots of great ideas, but when there is little or no enforcement what difference will it make... its like the wild wild west out there especially on weekends... to quote a local fishing guide “You could kill manatees out there and nobody would stop you. There’s zero enforcement,” Capt. Bob Branham.
After years of scientific research and countless hours of public debate to allow a less than 6% part of the park to be designated a fish haven. We now have the republican committee set to hold a hearing to undo it all...discuss.
Yes I am because in my feeble mind, the thought of stepping into an already decided plan after years of scientific study, analysis and public input via town hall meetings, email, social media campaigns, etc is outrageous! Where were these politicians when the plan was proposed to the public? Now they want to hold closed door hearings?
