I've noticed the lack of fishing reports recently. Just so you know, for me it's not been from a lack of trying, just a lack of any decent results.
Water temps near-shore right now are in the upper 80s to almost 90. It's pushed the trout and everything else off the shallow flats, so all there is are reds and snook to chase in deeper water. I've been doing my best to find fish, but so far it's been very slow -- a few dink snooklets, and haven't been seeing many redfish hanging around. And with air temps getting up to mid 90s (heat index over 100), I've now getting up around 4:00am and I get off the water by 10:00am. Honestly, I'd considering night fishing just to stay away from the heat. Or - god forbid -- I put away the fly rod and go back to bait fishing .....
Hoping some of you are getting out - if you are, post some reports good or bad.
And now, high winds and rain forecast all weekend along with low tides in the am. Viv, it's all up to you ..........
This weekend I am in the Badlands which are just gorgeous, it’s like being surrounded by whimsical sand castles. But next week AP, I will be in the black hills which supposedly have excellent trout fishing in the mountain streams and bass and walleye in the lakes. Will be visiting Dakota Angler fly shop as soon as I get there to get some intel. Wish me luck!
Love many, trust few and always paddle your own canoe.
I have been having boat issues lately, (not like I was going gang busters out of it anyway), so I started going out in the kayak again. Hitting lots of little snook, 12 to 18 inch. Haven't seen a red or trout in weeks. I don't post pics because I don't have the ability on this site.
