Until you get the offer to sign up it means nothing except maybe your sprinklers probably don't work now... but they are advertising up to 100mbs of internet for $40.00 per month all in (including fees & taxes)
Technically it means they will be able to offer faster internet service... it's ATT's answer to Comcast offerings.
In the near future, (my guess within a couple years), they will announce/release the new U-Verse products using that fiber and upgraded programming. Example now I have U-Verse and it has limitations of 3 concurrent HD streams and no 4k-FHD/UHD offerings... I could upgrade (sideways mpo) to Direct TV (still ATT) and get more concurrent HD streams and maybe a couple useless 4k documentary shows, but that requires an ugly dish antenna that flakes out in rain storms.
In the beginning they will only offer Internet services... upgraded UVerse is a ways away but real.
Internet I can only get 3mbs or 6mbs and it cost $43.00 plus fees and taxes per month. ATT does claim to offer up to 40mbs, (but that commercial of the guy lying is true), measuring the actual speed with a piece of test gear I can barely get 20ms... with that fiber you should be able to get near 100mbs. They upgraded Embassy Lakes hood but have not offered the service yet.
If when/they offer the Fiber in my hood I'd sign up for it, if the $40.00 all in for 100mbs is still being offered.
Comcast offers 60mbs for $39.99 plus taxes and fees, plus charge for installation and a monthly lease fee for a gateway/modem. You can buy your own modem for a hundie but if you have problems the first thing they say is its probably your modem and charge you a service fee to identify the real problem. Comcast is not offering any deals now on Internet only, they are pushing deals on internet with the comcast-mobile service.

My sprinklers didn't work before they tore up the yard so I guess I'm good.

It's not the size of the kayak that matters, it's how you move in tight places.

Put a new router on the house yesterday. Was having connect ability issues and speed issues. Test of speed on old system was 38-40mbps download. Test after new router...283 mbsps download speed. That is on 5 ghz

5ghz is the radio frequency of the wifi... the throughput speed upload/download is a diferent animal.
What router brand/model is the old one and the new one... Did you change the internet service provider or package ?

I've been struggling with Xfinity over the last 6 months. 3 service calls, and two box changes, and still it regularly cuts off sound/picture when turning on. Only thing that fixes is to disconnect power. I'm done with service calls as they try to charge you each time. When it works , it's good, when it doesn't , you end up talking to a Phillipino teenager for a technical issue. Probably going to Firestik in Nov., when my agreement expires.

I have a FireStick on one TV and a Roku on another... both work OK, but you still need a rather robust Internet connection, so if your Comcast internet is down consider that in your plan. There are some fairly good external antenna's that even in your remote area you should be able to get 20 or so channels including the locals in HD, maybe even a old movie channel and some spanglish channels, just no porn.
If you have a smart tv, and its hard to find a dumb one now days, but the smarts are dumbed down and controlled by the manufacturer of the TV, (so is FireStick & Roku), you may be able to load the specific app for most channels you watch, some are free, some are not. I manage to get all the fishing shows on the FireStick & Roku using WayPoint and a couple other apps.. FireStick you can put the Kodi app on, can't on Roku or my Samsung TV (Sony you can)... with the smart TV and Streaming-stick you can get a lot of stuff, its just kind of a PITA navigating around to find stuff. I've about exhausted NetFlix for good stuff though...

My internet connection hasn't been the problem, just the box/tv signal.

Its getting closer to reality... was talking to a new neighbor BSO LEO.. he was saying he gets by with just streaming service, even though as LEO he could get a really good price from ATT.
He's got Comcast Internet fast internet service, with WiFi gateway/modem, then all his TV's are connected to the WiFi. He uses "YouTube TV" $40.00 a month which includes unlimited cloud DVR, a couple apps on his Smart TV with NetFlix $12.99 a month, but does also have a Fire Stick with setup (Kodi) for free stuff.

I'm getting ready to do that in Oct. Instead of just the wifi firestick, I'll get the eternet adapter to go direct to my modem.

I love my fire stick on the road and just hot spot off my iPhone with Verizon unlimited. I wonder if you had a dedicated Verizon jet pack installed in your home, would not need a router just use the jetpack WiFi. I think AT&T also has a good deal on jet packs.

Vivian, couldn't you just tether your FireStick to your iPhone ?
