My issue is the size, (14) , and wide width. A lot of the choices stop at 13. I agree, the small particles are an issue, but the fit and ease of putting them on trumps that. Plus I have nerve damage in my feet, and cushioning is important as well.
You could cut a few toes off and maybe get down to a 13.
The SoftScience Fins I bought are comfy and roomy, that insole is comfy too. But they are snug going on and off... dem boots do look nice though, and they do have a 60 day stride warranty where they will pay return shipping if'n there is an issue.
Update: Got the boots and impressed with the fit, quality, and ease of getting off/on. Drainage looks good, and will not allow small shells to get into the shoe, due to the fact that the fine mesh covers the drainage slots on the inside. Removable soles are super soft, and comfortable. Can't wait to try them out in the water.
Go out and hose them down good, put them on, add more hose water... then walk around a while in the yard, up down and around... that's pretty much where I found dis-pleasure in the Fins I have.. but a new issue I have found is after that last messy bloody dolphin trip they smell like fishy-crap and have a few blood spots that don't want to come off, and I rinse them down after every trip. (Same smell as my old neopreme dive bootys, or hockey gear gets if ya leave them in the trunk, had to evict them from the garage.
