Capturing a decent picture of a bird-in-flight (BIF) is a lot harder than it looks. I posted one of a pelican a while back. I've since learned that you get a lot of rejects before you finally capture something decent.
This is a Spoonbill that was in a group of 50-100 birds (different species) all in a small pond, gorging on tiny minnows (actually have a pic of a spoonbill with one in it's paddle-beak). I had gotten a seat close to the action in the water, and from time to time birds would take off. I have lots of shots of birds flying near the water, but a few did fly overhead, and I managed this decent photo.
